Why am I feeling this way?

Anxiety is an emotion that happens naturally to alert you to be more aware or cautious of something. Constant worries and fear may begin, but it doesn’t always stop there… Many people notice anxiety in their bodies that can make them feel sick (headaches, upset stomach, muscle tension, fast breathing and a racing heartbeat). It can become uncomfortable to the point that you avoid important situations or people for fear that the worst will happen.

How do I get anxiety?

Good question! Anxiety can happen to anyone, but your own may look different than the next person. Some people have a family history of anxiety, noticing that they respond similarly to their parents or siblings in certain situations. You may also have experienced a stressful situation recently that leads you to feel worried it will happen again (i.e., failed test, job layoff, bullying). Otherwise, there is a possibility that you may have a hormonal imbalance that can increase anxiety.

How can I get rid of it?!

Everyone experiences it at one time or another. Anxiety is completely natural. However, higher levels of worries and physical signs can be resolved by a combination or one or more of the following: mental health therapy, holistic treatments and medication management.

Therapy can help you to become more aware of the things that bring on anxiety. It can be difficult to feel in control of the feeling when you aren’t familiar with what brings it on.
